Northern Superchargers unveil captains for 2024 season as Wayne Parnell's replacement is confirmed

While the women's team reached the final in 2023, losing to Southern Brave, the men finished rock bottom and missed out on the playoffs for a third straight campaign

England's Harry Brook is charged with turning around Northern Superchargers' fortunes in the men's Hundred after being installed as captain for the 2024 season.

Brook is likely to miss at least the opening two group matches due to the third West Indies at Edgbaston overlapping with the start of the 100-ball competition.

It means a new leadership axis for the Superchargers with Andrew Flintott having taken over as head coach after various roles with England men.

The Headingley team have not progressed beyond the group phase in either of the three editions and finished rock bottom last summer.

The appointment will be Brook's first senior captaincy position since he led England Under-19s in 2018.

"It's an honour to captain Northern Superchargers, and I'm really excited for it," he said.

"It's always special to play at Headingley and to represent the area, and to do that as captain in The Hundred this year will be extra special.

"I really like the look of the squad we've formed, and I think there's a lot to be excited about. I can't wait to work with Freddie and the rest of the group and hopefully, it'll be a year to remember."

Brook will become the sixth different player to captain Superchargers men in four seasons following stints for Ben Stokes, David Willey, Faf du Plessis, David Wiese and last season's skipper Wayne Parnell.

After finishing as runners-up to Southern Brave, Hollie Armitage remains as captain of the women's side for a third straight season.

After finishing second during the regular season they progressed to the final where they were beaten by eight wickets by Brave at Lord's.

It continues a busy week for Armitage who was confirmed as the Durham captain from 2025 after signing a three-year deal with the club where she will again team up with Superchargers head coach Dani Hazell.
