Fixture: Derbyshire Falcons v Lancashire Lightning

Venue: Incora County Ground, Derby

Date: Tuesday, June 15, 2021

Start time: 7:00pm

What’s the lowdown?

When these sides met at Old Trafford on June 9, it was Lancashire who emerged victorious, taking a six-wicket win with three balls remaining. Liam Livingstone was the star for the home side, scoring 94 not out, while Derbyshire's Luis Reece also passed 50.

The Falcons bounced back from the defeat in style with a 23-run victory over Leicestershire Foxes but hold off Birmingham Bears, who earned a three-wicket win with six balls remainings at the Incora County Ground on Sunday. A mixed start.

Lancashire head into the match with an identical record from their previous two fixtures. Lightning defeated Leicestershire by 16 runs at Old Trafford in their second match of the season before losing a low-scoring encounter against Worcestershire by eight wickets, despite a half-century from Jos Buttler.

Who’s in form?

Luis Reece is Derbyshire's form batter, posting two half-centuries in his opening three matches and scoring with a strike rate of 179.45. He's also starred with the ball, taking five wickets in nine overs and bowling with an economy of 7.66.

Allrounder Matt Critchley also looks in good touch, scoring 89 runs - including an unbeaten 80 against Leicestershire - and taking four wickets, while Fynn Hudson-Prentice impressed against Birmingham Bears, adding a useful 22-ball 41 from number six.

For Lightning, Livingstone has upstaged his England teammate Buttler, scoring 144 runs to the wicketkeeper's 107. However, Buttler's half-century against Worcestershire will give Glen Chapple cause for optimism. Likewise, Finn Allen's unbeaten 73 against Leicestershire was a huge statement of intent.

With the ball, despite not making much of an impression on the wickets column, young spinner Tom Hartley has been hugely economical, conceding just 67 runs from 11 overs. Matt Parkinson is once again Lancashire's main wicket-taking threat, with seven wickets in three appearances.

What’s the team news?

Derbyshire Falcons: Falcons have named a 15-man squad with Dustin Melton and Nick Potts remaining on the sidelines, with Alex Hughes joining them with a side strain. He could be out for up to six weeks. New loan signing Conor McKerr has been named in the squad, alongside fellow seamers George Scrimshaw and Sam Conners.

Derbyshire Falcons squad: Billy Godleman (c), Luis Reece, Leus du Plooy, Tom Wood, Matt Critchley, Harry Came, Brooke Guest, Fynn Hudson-Prentice, Michael Cohen, Alex Thomson, Mattie McKiernan, Logan van Beek, Sam Conners, George Scrimshaw, Conor McKerr

Lancashire: Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone remain available despite being called up by England. They will play another three games, departing after the clash with Birmingham Bears. The squad is otherwise unchanged.

Lancashire Lightning squad: Dane Vilas, Finn Allen, Tom Bailey, Jack Blatherwick, Josh Bohannon, Jos Buttler, Steven Croft, Alex Davies, Tom Hartley, Keaton Jennings, Danny Lamb, Liam Livingstone, Matt Parkinson, Luke Wood
