Fixture: Kent Spitfires v Gloucestershire
Venue: Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury
Date: Sunday, June 13, 2021
Start time: 6.30pm
What’s the lowdown?
Kent have made a terrific start to the new T20 Blast season, and they sit second in the South Group with wins from both of their first two fixtures.
Consistency with bat and ball have seen first-innings totals of 176 for 6 and 178 for 8 prove to be plenty enough for victory against both Hampshire Hawks and Middlesex.
Gloucestershire won their opening fixture at Glamorgan but suffered a home defeat by Sussex Sharks on Friday.
Who’s in form?
Encouragingly for Kent, most of the top order have shown signs of life in the early stages of the campaign. Stand-in captain Daniel Bell-Drummond, keeper-batsman Ollie Robinson, and Joe Denly made the contributions against Hampshire, and when they failed against Middlesex, Jack Leaning and Jordan Cox delivered with a pair of half-centuries.
With the ball, the evergreen Darren Stevens - at 45 years old continuing to improve - has five wickets at 10.8 and a miserly economy of 6.75. Fred Klaassen also has five wickets.
Glenn Phillips - the powerful New Zealander - introduced himself to Nevil Road with a rapid 42 on Friday, having also topscored with 44 in the four-run victory over Glamorgan.
Josh Shaw has five wickets at 9.4 so far this term.
