Fixture: Glamorgan v Sussex Sharks
Venue: Sophia Gardens, Cardiff
Dates: Friday, July 2, 2021
Start time: 5.30pm
What's the lowdown?
After completing a stunning one-ball victory over Surrey in their 10th Blast outing of the season, Glamorgan has wind taken out of their sails by Essex Eagles. Fielding a much-depleted side - Nick Selman, Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser are isolating while Prem Sisodiya was ruled out during the warm-up - Glamorgan were bowled out for a disappoiting 104, a total the Eagles chased down with 46 balls to spare. Well and truly back down to earth with a bump.
Sussex, meanwhile, are in dire straits. Having had four of their past five matches rained off and losing the one playable match against Gloucestershire by 27 runs, they headed to the capital to face Middlesex desperately in need of a win. They left London in sheepish fashion, suffering an embarrassing 63-run defeat thanks to some excellent bowling from Nathan Sowter and Blake Cullen.
However, despite their recent downturn in both form and luck, Sussex remain just one point outside of the top four in the South Group standings and only two points off top spot. Glamorgan sit seventh with three wins and six defeats to their name.
Who's in form?
Having been bowled out for 104 against Essex, it's hard to pinpoint a good batting performance from Glamorgan. David Lloyd was the best of a bad bunch, scoring 21 runs from 15 balls in a top-order cameo appearance. He now has 188 runs for the season, second only to Marnus Labuschagne.
With the ball, Roman Walker impressed, finishing with figures of 1 for 8 from his two overs. The 20-year-old is Glamorgan's cheapest bowler in the Blast, conceding 5.33 runs per over. Dan Douthwaite remains their leading wicket-taker with 11 to his name.
In the Sussex camp, Tymal Mills added a further two wickets to his collection against Middlesex, taking him to 11 for the season at an average of 11.4 and with an economy of 7.42. Young Archie Lenham also impressed with figures of 1 for 15 from his two overs.
Batting, however, remains a struggle. On his T20 debut, Harrison Ward scored 22 runs from 19 balls, a total bettered by only Travis Head (23). Phil Salt and Luke Wright are the only two Sharks with triple-figure totals for the season.
