T20 Blast 2024 roundup: Samit Patel stuns Leicestershire again, Middlesex and Hampshire thwarted by rain

The Cricketer wraps up the best of the action from the latest round of matches in the 2024 Vitality Blast

North Group

Leicester: Leicestershire Foxes 184-6, Derbyshire Falcons 188-6,  - Derbyshire won by four wickets

Veteran all-rounder Samit Patel tormented Leicestershire Foxes for the second time this T20 Blast season as Derbyshire Falcons completed a double over their East Midlands neighbours in the North Group to lift their hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

The 39-year-old Falcons skipper, whose 64 was the difference when the sides met at Edgbaston at the start of the campaign, hit nine fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 67 as Derbyshire chased down 185 to win by four wickets with four balls to spare.

Ben Cox hit four sixes in a 30-ball unbeaten 61 and Lewis Goldsworthy 48 from 41 as the Foxes finished strongly to post 184 for six. Former Leicestershire seamer Zak Chappell took three for 42 and Patel two for 27, with Pakistan left-arm quick Mohammad Amir wicketless on his Derbyshire debut.

South Group

Radlett: Middlesex v Hampshire Hawks - match abandoned

Middlesex and Hampshire Hawks had to settle for a point apiece as the waterlogged surface at Radlett rendered their Vitality Blast South Group tie unplayable.

Heavy rain during the morning meant the pitch remained covered and umpires Nigel Llong and Neil Pratt eventually called off the contest at 4.15 pm, following a further downpour.

It was Middlesex's second washout in less than 24 hours, with the weather also preventing them from taking to the field against Surrey on Friday.

The point lifted the Hawks, who have now gone six Blast matches without a win, to sixth place in the table, while Middlesex stay bottom.
