Notts reduced to third-lowest Blast total as they suffer "very bad day at the office"

There were comments from both sides about the quality of the Trent Bridge surface as Birmingham Bears dismantled the Nottinghamshire Outlaws by nine wickets

Trent Bridge: Nottinghamshire 57, Birmingham Bears 61-1 - Birmingham won by nine wickets

Nottinghamshire made the third-lowest total in T20 Blast history as they were bowled out for just 57 by the Birmingham Bears.

George Garton (2 for 6), Jake Lintott (2 for 17), and the returning Mooen Ali (2 for 2) all contributed with a couple of wickets for the Bears. None of the eight bowlers used by captain Danny Briggs went wicketless.

Notts captain Joe Clarke told the ECB Reporters Network: "There are bad days at the office and very bad days and this was one of those. To get bowled out for 57 is tough to take.

"It wasn't a good performance. We just couldn't get going. We scored one boundary in the first 16 overs, which is not the way we want to play our cricket."

Notts lost three wickets with just nine runs on the board in the space of an over.

There was brief resistance from Jack Haynes (13) and Lyndon James (15) but they were the only Outlaws batters to make double figures.

The Notts skipper added: "It is a shame that we have to play on slowish wickets because the crowds love to see fours and sixes and big scores but that’s just the way cricket is at the moment.

"The scheduling does not allow the ground staffs time to prepare loads of fresh wickets."

Clarke was not the only one who bemoaned the quality of the surface as Birmingham's Jake Lintott echoes his thoughts.

Lintott said: "I think it was a pretty poor surface really for T20 cricket but it suited us down to the ground, holding in the surface with a lot of spin.

"We adapted to the surface early, the seamers taking pace off straight away and we made the most of it in what was a clinical and ruthless performance."

The Bears then chased down the target with 88 balls to spare as they reached 61 after 5.2 overs. Rob Yates made 35 while Dan Mousley made 10 as Birmingham extended their lead at the top of the north group to three points over Lancashire.

Fazalhaq Farooqi, the highest wicket-taker at the T20 World Cup, removed Ed Barnard for 12 but could do little as the visitors cruised home.

Nottinghamshire's miserable Blast campaign continues as they sit second from bottom in the North group.
