Northamptonshire have signed South Africa international Matthew Breetzke for the T20 Blast.

The 25-year-old, who has three T20I caps for the Proteas, is the Steelbacks' second overseas signing for the T20 competition, joining Zimbabwe allrounder Sikandar Raza.

Breetzke has made 80 T20 appearances in his career to date, scoring 2,009 runs, including 13 half-centuries, at a strike rate of 131.82.

He will arrive at Wantage Road in good form after scoring 416 runs for Durban Super Giants in the SA20 and a competition-leading 467 runs for Warriors in the 2024 CSA T20 Challenge. In both competitions he averaged above 30 and had a strike rate above 130.

"Matt is a very capable batter, who will bring power, experience and some real determination to the side," said head coach, John Sadler.

"We identified what we wanted to achieve with our signings this year and he perfectly fits the profile of the type of player that we wanted to bring in as our second overseas.

"He has been excellent over the last couple of seasons domestically and we've been really impressed, so we can't wait to see what he can do this year."

"I am very excited to join the Steelbacks for the upcoming Vitality Blast and really grateful for the opportunity," Breetzke added.
