Peter Hatzoglou has joined Glamorgan on a short-term T20 contract as cover for compatriot Michael Neser.

Neser is unavailable for at least Glamorgan's first four matches of the Blast after joining an Australia training camp ahead of the World Test Championship and the Ashes.

Leg-spinner Hatzoglou, a white-ball specialist who was playing club cricket for Buckhurst Hill when Glamorgan came calling, is hardly a like-for-like replacement for Neser, a pace-bowling allrounder, but has impressed in his career to date, taking 42 wickets in 40 T20 appearances and winning back-to-back Big Bash titles with Perth Scorchers.

Hatzoglou also featured in the 2022 edition of The Hundred, making two appearances for Oval Invincibles.
Commenting on joining Glamorgan, the 24-year-old said: "I'm really excited to make an impact during my stay here.

"With Neser being called up to the Australian squad, I wasn't too far away in Essex and I guess I got the tap on the shoulder for the call up which is great.

"It's been really good to have some success with the Perth Scorchers over the last couple of years. I had some experience in The Hundred last year playing for the Oval Invincibles and I'm sure it'll be a nice little transition into the Blast this year."

Director of cricket Mark Wallace added, "Neser is not going to be available for the next three games. He's got some Australia commitments so we're not going to have him.

"We've moved on a short-term contract to bring in Hatzoglou to give us some more bowling depth.

"Peter's got a good record around the world, mostly in the Big Bash, but in a few other franchise competitions as well. We're really looking forward to adding him to the Glamorgan squad and hopefully kickstarting this T20 campaign."

Hatzoglou is due to be available for Glamorgan’s matches against Somerset (May 28), Middlesex (May 31) and Kent (June 2).
