Burns has made 57 List A appearances across his career, scoring 1,722 runs at 35.14 and boasts a strike rate of 84.78 in the format. His most recent 50-over outing came for Surrey against Somerset in May 2019.
His availability for the Royal London Cup is a bonus for Surrey, who are set to lose around 10 players – including batters Will Jacks, Jason Roy and Laurie Evans – to The Hundred.
Last season, Surrey reached the semi-finals of the competition, losing to runners-up Durham by five wickets.
