Kusal Mendis arrested after being involved in fatal road incident

Sri Lanka batsman Kusal Mendis has been arrested after a 64-year-old was killed in a road traffic collision.

The vehicle Mendis was driving struck the cyclist at around 5am local time on Sunday morning.

Police have confirmed the incident, which took place just south of Colombo in the town of Panadura. 

An investigation has been opened, with Mendis due to appear before a magistrate this week.

The 25-year-old has made 146 appearances for his country across cricket's three formats.
