Faf du Plessis has been left out of the South Africa T20 squad for the tour of India.

The 35-year-old, who has been replaced by Quinton de Kock as the captain of the Proteas 20-over side, will however lead the Test side for the three-match series against Virat Kohli's men following the T20 series.

Temba Bavuma, Bjorn Fortuin and Anrich Nortje are the newcomers to the squad selected for the three-match T20I series, while the latter also joins wicketkeeper Rudi Second and Senuran Muthusamy as the new players in the Test squad.

The first T20I match between the sides takes place on Sunday, September 15, with the final match of the T20I series a week later.

The five-day matches then begin on Wednesday, October 2, with the last day of the third Test scheduled for Wednesday, October 23.
