Canterbury Academy's Alexa Stonehouse will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Meg Lanning and Nat Sciver after being picked to represent Trent Rockets in The Women's Hundred this summer.

On the selection, Stonehouse - who is involved with both the Kent set-up as well as South East Stars -  told The Cricketer she was looking forward to mixing with some of the game's top players.

"I'm really excited to be asked to go to The Hundred, it will be a great experience to get the chance to play with cricketers who I've looked up to watching on TV.

"I'm looking forward to learning from top cricketers and learning more about my own game.

"I wanted to throw myself into a different pool of people, so I can gain confidence and ideas as to what I can do to improve everything about my game."

The 17-year-old, who we understand also had an offer on the table from Oval Invincibles, will be mentored by England's Katherine Brunt during her time with the Rockets.

"I've been told Katherine Brunt is going to mentor me so I'm looking forward to that," said Stonehouse.

"With everything she's learnt in her career, I can learn a lot more about my own game from her."

Canterbury head coach Dave Fulton was full of praise for Stonehouse, saying "she's an absolute dream to work with".

I've worked with a lot of players over the years as a player and coach, and she is right up there in terms of work ethic and the energy she brings to the group," said Fulton.

"We call her the machine. She bust her finger recently which we thought was going to endanger her tour to Spain - two weeks later she's getting catches whacked back at her, she just doesn't make a fuss about anything, just cracks on.

"If she's got an area of her game to work on she will pull the coaches aside and ask for help - some people do that for five minutes, she's doing doing it for 20. That's why she's got to where she has.

"I think that's why she has got these offers, because as soon as she got into the South East Stars squad, yes she's done well on the pitch, but they will see her train and think "that's the kind of person we want to work with".
