Canterbury Academy opened The Cricketer Schools 100 with a comprehensive 95-run victory over Rajasthan Royals Academy UK, led by an imperious, unbeaten hundred from Jaydn Denly.
Having won the toss and electing to bat, Canterbury moved steadily to 33-0 at the end of the powerplay, with Denly showing touches of class from the off. Placement was paired with power as the left-hander cleared the rope twice early on.
33-0 off 25 became 66-0 off 50 with Denly 45* off 31 and Connor Dale 19* (19) providing a steady hand at the opposite end as Canterbury set the platform for a big total in the tournament opener.
Denly's half-century arrived from 35 balls and he didn't look back, continuing to show intent in his quest for three figures.
A clip into the legside brought a quickly-scampered two took the opener to a fine hundred off just 62 deliveries. The milestone represents the first century in the history of the tounament, with nobody reaching three figures in 2022's inaugural competition.
Connor Dale fell for a well-measured 40 off 33 while Denly left the field unbeaten 102 as Canterbury posted an imposing 163-1.
It always looked a tough ask for Rajasthan and a miserly bowling display from Canterbury earned a comfortable victory with their opponents four down at the close.
Ollie Jordan-Smith typified the effort, bowling 12 dot balls in a row before finishing with figures of 1 for 2 from three overs.
