SA20 confirm 2025 dates will "own South African summer"

The tournament has clashed with the BBL, ILT20 and BPL in its first two seasons

The dates of the 2025 SA20 tournament have been confirmed as January 9 to February 8.

That means that, like the first two editions, there will be an overlap with the BBL, ILT20 and BPL.

Some players have featured partly in a BBL season before heading to SA20, with Afghanistan's Rashid Khan a notable example, heading to the 2023 edition with MI Cape Town after playing in Australia with Adelaide Strikers.

There were also players such as Phil Salt and Leus du Plooy who played the entirety of last season's SA20 tournament before heading to ILT20 for the latter stages.

SA20 commissioner Graeme Smith said in a press statement of the tournament being in the best window for South African cricket: "Following two successful seasons, our plan is to continue to own the South African summer and provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy some of the biggest names in world cricket, whether in packed stadiums or via the global broadcast."

"Our fixtures, auction, and player announcements will be revealed over the coming months and planning is already fully in motion. We can't wait to bring another incredible sport and entertainment event to life for players and fans."

Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the reigning champions of the tournament, and the only side to have won it so far, beating Durban's Super Giants in the 2024 final, after they overcame Pretoria Capitals in 2023.

They'll be looking for a three-peat when the next edition kicks off in January 2025.
