Northamptonshire have confirmed the arrival of Prithvi Shaw for the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

As reported by The Cricketer earlier this month, Shaw has joined the county on a short-term deal which at present will run for the duration of the 50-over competition.

The 23-year-old boasts a career average above 52 in List A cricket, and will give Northants' batting a welcome boost for the tournament.

"It's a great opportunity for me and I'm really thankfully to Northamptonshire for giving me this chance to express myself here," Shaw said.

"It's going to be amazing and I'm really looking forward to it.

"The goal for me wherever I play is about the team. So winning games for Northamptonshire is the first goal for this season and then it's about scoring as many runs as I can, I just want to give 100 per cent."

Shaw is set to make his Northants debut against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham on Friday (August 4).

He will be captained in the One-Day Cup by Lewis McManus, after the wicketkeeper was confirmed in the role on Monday (July 31).

McManus said: "Captaincy is a new thing for me but you obviously see a lot more while you're keeping than maybe you do at extra cover or something like that, so I've always thought a lot about the game.

"I'm looking forward to leading the lads out there, I've enjoyed the responsibility I've had as vice-captain this year and this is that next step."
