Only 26. Must admit I was flummoxed by the one in Jan 1939. As it was marked bold for south Africa I went for south African players I could remember. If I thought about English players I might have got Paynter. I should have got Hooper. Did not think about Rowan, just names like Van der Bijl, Mitchell and Nourse (which matched one).

Nice little quiz. Who managed Eric Rowan? Not me. And who managed 'Edward' Paynter for South Africa v England, same series,1939? Again, I didn't - not helped by the fact that Eddie Paynter made his double for England (and is always 'Eddie'). John Ryder (1925) likewise was universally known as Jack: Captain of Australia, later Chairman of Selectors. I accept the charge of pedantry, though I call it accuracy!
