The left-arm seamer has previously played for the franchise but started this season in a competition-wide reserve pool
Pakistan seamer Usman Shinwari has been signed up by Karachi Kings to fill the void left by injuries to Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Ilyas, both of whom have been ruled out of the Pakistan Super League.
Karachi, who won the tournament in 2020, have lost all three of their games so far this season.
Shinwari, a 34-time international for Pakistan, represented Quetta Gladiators last year and began this season as one of 19 players in a competition-wide reserve pool. Between 2017 and 2019, he played for Karachi Kings in 27 games.
He will be available for Kings' match on Friday against Peshawar Zalmi.
Amir had not featured in this campaign due to a side strain but then aggravated a back problem during his rehabilitation process.

Ilyas proved expensive in six overs across three games. In the third – a defeat against Lahore Qalandars – he suffered a shoulder injury that has ended his competition.
"MRIs have confirmed the worst and he has been advised rest for the next six weeks or so, and shall be leaving for his home in Peshawar tomorrow evening," said a Karachi Kings statement.
Shinwari has previously featured in T20 competitions overseas, including for Jaffna Stallions in the Lanka Premier League and Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash.
