Peshawar Zalmi will be captained by Babar Azam during the eighth season of the PSL.

The competition's all-time leading run-scorer moved from Karachi Kings last month, where he has played 66 of his 68 PSL matches.

Babar has scored 2,413 runs at 42.33 across seven seasons of the six-team tournament.

He has been involved in just a single title win, in 2020 with Kings.

Wahab Riaz captained the side last season and though he has been retained for 2023, the Pakistan captain will take over.

Zalmi chair Javed Afridi announced the move on social media on Wednesday (December 14).

Sherfane Rutherford, Mohammad Haris and Tom Kohler-Cadmore were also retained from the Zalmi squad which reached last season's Eliminator, where they were beaten by Islamabad United.

They and their five rivals will have the chance to complete their squads during the PSL auction on Thursday (December 15).
