Gary Kirsten will officially begin his tenure as Pakistan men's white-ball head coach when he joins up with the squad ahead of the England series in Leeds on Sunday (May 19).

The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed the 56-year-old South African will have three days with the group before the first T20I at Headingley on Wednesday (May 22).

Kirsten, a Cricket World Cup-winning coach with India in 2011, was appointed last month, with Jason Gillespie taking on the equivalent red-ball post.

"I'm truly excited to embark on this new journey with the Pakistan men’s cricket team," he said.

"It's an honour to coach such a talented and dynamic team, and I'm eager to contribute to their success on the international stage.

"These are indeed thrilling times for Pakistan cricket, with a new administration and players who are driven to deliver solid results. The upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 presents a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our skills and uphold Pakistan's legacy as a formidable force in cricket.

"However, success will require collective effort, meticulous planning and unwavering support for one another. With 19 other teams vying for the title, we must consistently outperform our rivals to realise our aspirations."

Simon Helmot and David Reid, fielding and mental performance coach respectively, will join up on May 20 and 31.

Alongside taking on defending champions England, among Kirsten's first jobs will be signing off on Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad which will be unveiled after the first T20I in Leeds.

The ICC deadline for all squads to be submitted is May 24, though the other 19 nations have all announced provisional squads.

Preparations for the tournament began in earnest with a 2-1 T20I series win over Ireland completed courtesy of a six-wicket win in third match in Dublin on Tuesday (May 14).
