Dane Paterson returns to Nottinghamshire as overseas player in 2022

The South Africa seamer took 54 wickets in 12 County Championship games as Notts staged a bid for the title

Nottinghamshire have re-signed Dane Paterson as an overseas player for the 2022 season.

The South Africa international took 54 wickets in 12 LV=Insurance County Championship matches during the last campaign.

Only teammate Luke Fletcher, Durham's Chris Rushworth, Sam Cook of Essex and the evergreen Tim Murtagh at Middlesex grabbed more.

Paterson also claimed 16 wickets across the Royal London One-Day Cup and T20 Blast, and he'll be a welcome arrival back at the club next term.

"I was keen to make my mark after Mick Newell and Peter Moores showed their faith in me, and I was happy with the way I was able to contribute to the success of the team in my first year," he said. 

“I have always enjoyed my red-ball cricket in particular, and the challenge of putting your body through the rigours of a county season was something I relished and will be ready for again. 

“Most of all, I’m grateful for the chance to spend another season in and around a great bunch of people at Trent Bridge. 

“The way they accepted me at the club is something I won’t forget, and I can’t wait to get back together with them again to have a red hot crack at some silverware in 2022.”

Head coach Moores added: "Dane is a player who relishes the battle, which is important, but I also love the way he threw himself into forming relationships with his teammates and colleagues, and they all took to him very quickly.

"It's a credit to him that he bought into the club's culture and understood what it meant to play for Notts. 

"And, with how popular he is within the group, you feel like his motivation comes from wanting to do the hard yards for the people around him because he feels part of something special."
