South Africa allrounder Wiaan Mulder has been recalled from his spell at Kent to rest a foot injury ahead of possible international honours.

The 21-year-old, who has been playing at Canterbury as the county’s overseas player, is expected to be involved in one two South Africa squads that are due to tour India from the end of August.

South Africa have three Test matches scheduled, as well as three T20 internationals. South Africa A are also set to be in India at the same time. It is thought that Mulder will be part of one of the parties.

As such, the decision has been taken to recall Mulder, who made a high score of 68 in three County Championship matches, averaging 28.5 with the bat in the process. He also took 10 wickets at a rate of 30.7.

Director of cricket Paul Downton said: “It is a great pity Wiaan is unable to finish his stint with us. He is an exceptional young man with a great cricketing future.

“We fully accept Cricket South Africa’s decision to rest him and I have told him we would love to see him back in Kent’s jersey one day.”
