Simmons was controversially ousted from the position in 2016, six months after the Windies had won the T20 World Cup in India
Phil Simmons has been appointed West Indies head coach for the second time.
Simmons was controversially ousted from the position in 2016, six months after the Windies won the T20 World Cup in India.
The Cricket West Indies board at the time cited "differences in cultural and strategic approach", but the leadership at the top of the governing body has since undergone a major overhaul.
Simmons has also led Ireland and Afghanistan during his coaching career. On Sunday, he lifted the Caribbean Premier League title with Barbados Tridents.

"Bringing Phil Simmons back is not just righting a past wrong, but I am confident that CWI has chosen the right man for the job at the right time. I want to also thank the very talented Floyd Reifer for the hard work he put in while he was the interim coach," said Ricky Skerritt, the CWI president.
Director of cricket Jimmy Adams said: "I am happy, after a very robust recruitment process at the appointment of Phil to the role of head coach. I have no doubt that Phil brings the requisite leadership skills and experience needed to drive improvement across our international squads and I look forward to supporting him in the role."
Simmons had been on a three-man shortlist for the role, with Desmond Haynes and Floyd Reifer also considered.
