Trent Rockets recorded their third successive victory in The Hundred with an six-wicket victory over Welsh Fire at Sophia Gardens.

Welsh Fire started strongly and were nicely poised on 75 for 2 after 60 balls. However, they lost their remaining eight wickets for just 27 runs to collapse to 102 all out - a total which Rockets chased down with eight balls remaining after a couple of rocky moments of their own.

Trent Rockets are now level on points with Oval Invincibles and only two points behind first-placed Southern Brave after five matches.

Here’s how it happened…

Ball 1: FOUR! Bryony Smith wastes no time in getting a boundary on the board, guiding Katherine Brunt’s opening delivery through long on for four.

Ball 19: Boundary saved! Smith chips the ball over mid on and it looks to be racing away for a certain boundary before a superman dive from Sarah Glenn saves two runs. The spinner lands awkwardly but is okay to continue.

Ball 28: SIX! Smith takes on the longest boundary and clears it with ease, picking a full delivery from Sammy-Jo Johnson and dispatching it over midwicket.

Ball 30: Smith OUT! Swift revenge for Johnson after being smashed for a six and a four by Smith. The opener is bowled by the Aussie to depart for 27 from 16 balls. 34-1

Ball 38: Redmayne OUT! A bullet arm from Bryce at midwicket removes a sprawling Georgia Redmayne at the non-strikers end, run out for one. 39-2

Ball 51: FOUR for Matthews! It’s taken her 26 balls, but Hayley Matthews has her first boundary of the day, whacking Glenn through the covers. It’s Fire’s first boundary since the 29th ball and Matthews followed it up with a second off ball 52.

Ball 53: REVIEW! Matthews is struck on her left knee roll but is given not out by umpire Jasmine Naeem. Nat Sciver opts to go upstairs, but the decision stands as the lbw is too close to call. A reprieve for Matthews.

Ball 54: SIX! Matthews is flying now, dancing down the wicket and lifting the ball over the long on. An expensive over from Sarah Glenn with 16 coming off it.

Ball 59: Taylor OUT, or is she? Sarah Taylor starts to walk after being struck on the pads by Sciver but Matthews pressures for the review and the ball is missing leg stump. Rockets then review a potential runout off the same delivery, also not out.

Ball 61: Matthews OUT! This match has suddenly come alive at the halfway mark. Matthews departs for 28 after slicing Heather Graham’s delivery to Nancy Harman at short third man. 75-3

Ball 63: Taylor OUT! Taylor attempts a reverse shot and is bowled by Graham, departing for a 10-ball 11. What a set this is from the Aussie. 76-4

Ball 86: Luff OUT! Nat Sciver is the number one T20 allrounder in the world and she’s just demonstrated why, taking a low diving catch in the deep to dimiss Sophie Luff for nine. 96-5

Ball 88: Hennessy OUT! Swing and a miss from Georgia Hennessy leaves her stumps exposed and Rachel Priest makes no mistake in whipping the bails off. Johnson has her third wicket. 97-6

Ball 91: George OUT! Katie George loses the ball, goes for a wander, and is stumped by Priest. 98-7

Ball 95: 100 up! Welsh Fire limp to three figures with Alex Griffiths on 1, Piera Cleary on 2, and three wickets in hand.

Ball 96: Griffiths OUT! It’s Priest again! Rapid hands to dismiss Griffiths who can't quite get her toe back over the line. 100-8

Ball 97: Harvey OUT! Oh dear, Harvey hits the ball and says no, but Cleary is already on her way, leaving Graham with the easiest of runouts at the non-strikers end. 100-9

Ball 100: Baker OUT! Hannah Baker flicks the ball leg side and pushes in vain for a second, stumped by Priest to leave Welsh Fire all out for 102.

A calamitous ending to their innings sees Welsh Fire lose eight wickets for just 27 runs to collapse to 102 all out. Trent Rockets are yet to win a match while chasing but should back themselves here.

Ball 1: FOUR! Little bit of déjà vu here with Priest sweeping the first ball of the innings for four over the square leg boundary.

Ball 5: Priest OUT! Two fours off the set but Smith redeems herself, bowling Priest who has to depart for eight. 8-1

Ball 9: Sciver off the mark! The Trent Rockets captain soaks up three dot before punishing a back of a length delivery through midwicket for four. And the next ball also goes to the boundary courtesy of an ugly inside edge.

Ball 14: Johnson OUT! Not the best of starts to Rockets’ chase, with Johnson pinned lbw by Matthews. The Aussie departs for a four-ball duck, making way for the Barnsley Express (although a glance at DRS shows the ball was slipping down the legside). 16-2

Ball 23: FOUR for Sciver! That’ll settle any nerves in the Trent Rockets camp as Sciver strokes an elegant boundary through point.

Ball 37: FOUR for Brunt! First boundary for Brunt, struck forcefully through long on. Is this the shot in the arm the Rockets need to kickstart their chase? Yes, two fours to finish the over and Trent Rockets need a run a ball.

Ball 58: 50-partnership! Brought up in style with a four from the bat of Brunt. Sciver and Brunt have scored 52 runs from 45 balls, with the former contributing 33 (23) and the latter 16 (22). Trent Rockets require 35 runs from 42 balls.

Ball 69: 50 for Sciver! The skipper brings up her half-century with a single. She reaches 50 off 35 balls, including eight fours.

Ball 72: Brunt OUT! The England veteran skies the ball and a high catch is taken comfortably by Baker at midwicket. 82-3

Ball 73: FOUR! Graham's off the mark straight away with a boundary! It's a fortuitous inside edge which squeezes past the stumps and away to the rope.

Ball 82: Sciver OUT! Smith, diving away to her right, holds on to a thick leading edge from Sciver, who departs for a 40-ball 54. Surely Welsh Fire can't do this, can they? 103-5

Ball 89: REVIEW... Glenn is hit on her front pad by Baker and Luff sends it upstairs after umpire Naeem is unmoved. Too close to call!

Ball 90: Glenn OUT! Glenn is bowled by Baker and Trent Rockets now need five runs from 10 balls. 103-6

Ball 92: VICTORY FOR ROCKETS! Sealed with a crunching four through cover point by Abi Freeborn. Trent Rockets have completed a successful chase!

Trent Rockets captain Nat Sciver was pleased with her side's performance despite their shaky chase, commenting: "I would love to have been out there to finish it off. It makes it hard when you have to watch rather than being out there able to do something about it. For batters to come in under that pressure and get them over the line was really important. Not everyone has had a bat in the competition, so it is good for them to come in under that pressure and get us over the line as well.

"We did really well to restrict them to that total. Obviously they have got some important batters that we were very happy to see the back of, we did brilliantly in the bowling innings. We did a lot of things right in the field, that first half was brilliant."

Welsh Fire allrounder Piepa Cleary believes her side would have taken the win if their middle-order had kicked on with the bat. "In the end we thought even an extra 20 runs would have left us a little bit more in the game as I thought we bowled well. We just need our middle order to fire with the bat and I think it showed having a set batter is really important," she said.

"I think it is just key having one of our top four in at the end to be honest. It looks like it is hard to start, we saw that with their team as well, so three, four or five needs to be there at the end to kick it along with everyone else."

Welsh Fire: 102 off 100 balls (Six fours, two sixes)

Trent Rockets: 103 off 92 balls (14 fours, 0 sixes)
