Southern Brave clutched victory from the jaws of defeat against London Spirit to record back-to-back wins in The Hundred.

Alex Davies scored a half-century as Southern Brave finished their 100 balls on 145 for 6 before strong performances from Adam Rossington and Josh Inglis put London Spirit in the driver's seat.

However, a stunning catch from Quinton de Kock removed Inglis with 14 balls remaining to derail the home side's chase and helped the Brave seal a narrow four-run win.

Here’s how it happened…

Ball 13: SIX! Quinton de Kock gets the first maximum of the day, lofting Mohammad Amir’s third delivery over cover point. It’s a welcome boundary for Southern Brave’s openers, who lost the first 10 balls of the innings to an economical spell from Mohammad Nabi.

Ball 17: Vince OUT! Chris Wood makes an early breakthrough! Vince, frustrated at failing to hit a boundary from his first nine balls, targets the short boundary but can only pick out Mason Crane at deep midwicket. 19-1

Ball 24: SIX! De Kock has Nabi in his sights now, sweeping the first ball of the five for four before hammering the penultimate delivery over square leg for six. A single to finish the set leaves Brave on 34 for 1 at the end of the powerplay.

Ball 31: de Kock OUT! Blake Cullen is introduced into the attack and takes the big wicket of de Kock with his first ball. The South African edges the ball through to keeper Adam Rossington to depart for a 14-ball 27. 36-2

Ball 37: Davies DROPPED! A horrible error from Wood who shells a straightforward catch. Alex Davies, who top edged Cullen straight to the fielder, breathes a sigh of relief.

Ball 45: FOUR for Conway! Brave’s first boundary in 21 attempts and it comes from the bat of Devon Conway, who punches Amir through mid-on for four. The New Zealander was struck on the hand earlier in the innings and hit the boundary with one hand on the bat… trouble for Brave?

Ball 59: Conway OUT! The wounded Kiwi is a goner! Caught and bowled by Roelof van der Merwe to depart for 22. Brave are definitely in trouble now. 68-3

Ball 66: Back-to-back boundaries! For the first time in the match, Southern Brave send the ball over the rope twice in a row. Either side of a bowling change, Davies bashes Cullen for four down to square before driving Wood’s first delivery through the covers.

Ball 72: Garton OUT! George Garton made good connection, but his boundary attempt falls well short and into the hands of Joe Denly at deep midwicket. 90-3

Ball 77: SIX! Welcome to the game, Ross Whiteley! A sub-par delivery from Mason Crane is smashed towards the pavilion to bring up Brave’s first maximum since ball 24. Wowzer.

Ball 89: Whiteley OUT! The Worcestershire batter holes out to Josh Inglis at backward square leg as Amir picks up his first wicket. 125-5

Ball 96: No balls galore! Oh dear, what a blunder from Cullen, whose high full toss to Colin de Grandhomme is carved away for four and called a no ball by the umpire.

Ball 99: 50 for Davies! The Lancashire opener brings up his half-century off 39 balls with a four over mid-off – his fifth boundary of the day.

Ball 100: Davies OUT! Davies connects with Cullen’s full toss, but it falls into the hands of a running Nabi. 145-6

Southern Brave have Alex Davies to thank for their 140+ knock, the 26-year-old running for all he was worth to bring up his 50. It should be enough against London Spirit, who will be ruing Wood's dropped catch to dismiss Davies off the 37th ball.

Ball 4: FOUR for Rossington! First boundary for London Spirit goes to wicketkeeper Rossington, who firmly strikes the ball over the rope.

Ball 8: SIX! And it’s Rossington who delivers the first maximum for the side in blue, dispatching the ball high over midwicket for six.

Ball 10: Nightmare for de Grandhomme! Oh, it’s a horrible five from de Grandhomme. It started with a dot ball, but quickly went downhill, recording 4, 6, 4, two no balls and a wide before Rossington sends the free hit (at the second attempt) over backward square for six. 23 off the set and Rossington now has 30 runs from 11 balls.

Ball 17: Boundary for Inglis! After watching Rossington smash it about, Inglis gets in on the action, crashing Tymal Mills through the covers for four. And he follows it up with a second to move onto nine from three balls.

Ball 24: Mis-field! Vince goes for a one-handed pick-up at mid-off, over-runs the ball and it trundles to the boundary. Should have used a long barrier, James. London Spirit are 68 for 0 at the end of the powerplay and require 78 runs to win off 75 balls.

Ball 27: Rossington OUT! Finally, something goes the way of Southern Brave. Rossington caught behind by de Kock off the bowling of Garton to depart for a bold 39 (18 balls). 68-1

Ball 28: Denly OUT! Garton’s on a hat-trick! Denly goes the same way as Rossington, leaving the field for a sheepish golden duck. 68-2

Back 29: Dot ball. Back of a length, pushed to cover. All that excitement for nothing.

Ball 34: Mis-field! De Grandhomme is having a day to forget. This time, a reverse sweep from Inglis goes through his legs for two.

Ball 42: Morgan OUT! Eoin Morgan should know better than to take on Chris Jordan! The England captain picks out Jordan in the field and he demolishes the stumps with an underarm throw from mid-off. 81-3

Ball 61: Boundary for Inglis! Inglis picks off a short ball from Jordan and pulls it over the rope for London Spirit's first four for since the powerplay.

Ball 63: Bopara OUT! Jordan strikes! Bopara pulls the ball to deep square leg where a leaping Davies takes the catch. 103-4

Ball 68: SIX! Into the stands from Inglis, lovely stuff.

Ball 85: SIX and 50 for Inglis! That will take the pressure off! Inglis pulls Garton over backward square for six, bringing up his half-century off 42 balls and reducing the equation to 18 runs required off 15 balls.

Ball 86: Inglis OUT! Oh my word, a sensational catch from de Kock. Off the bowling of Chris Jordan, the wicketkeeper hangs in the air like Michael Jordan to remove Inglis for 55 after an attempted ramp. 128-4

Ball 90: A tidy five. Masterful death bowling from Jordan: wicket, one, wide, dot, dot, two. 14 needed off 10.

Ball 93: Fielding penalty! Oh dear, Southern Brave lose a boundary fielder with 12 needed off seven balls.

Ball 95: Nabi OUT! It's that man again! Davies at extra cover taking the catch to dismiss Nabi off the bowling of Tymal Mills. 135-6

Ball 97: FOUR for van der Merwe! He swings wildly and ends up on the floor, but it goes over the extra cover boundary for four. Six runs off three balls.

Ball 99: Cullen OUT! Cullen swings at a yorker, misses, and gets runout by de Kock. A big six needed here. 141-7

Ball 100: SOUTHERN BRAVE WIN! Chris Jordan to Mohammad Amir, dot ball.

Discussing his half-century, Southern Brave batter, Alex Davies, said: "Given how hard I found it and the other lads found it starting their innings, I felt someone needed to take responsibility, soak up as many balls as possible and get us to a respectable total. If we get the runs on the board this bowling attack can do the rest for us."

The Lancashire opener also commented on his side's upturn in form, continuing: "We didn’t hit our straps in the first two games but with this being a shorter format the margins are even smaller and we’re starting to find our feet. If we can get on a roll, who know what could happen?"

Rather than dwell on his side's defeat, London Spirit captain Eoin Morgan praised the entertaining nature of the game: "If you watch the games that have been played in the tournament so far, every single one has been really tight. You’re never out of the game at all, I think that’s been one of the entertaining factors of hundred-ball cricket. I thought it was a good wicket and for the majority of the chase we did a lot of things really well.

"The further you go without winning games, the harder it is to break it. We’ve been slow starters and we haven’t had a lot of luck in the tournament so far but I believe we can turn it around. They’re a strong side, Southern Brave. In all the games we’ve played there’s been a really good contest between bat and ball – it’s not been lopsided in any game so far."

Southern Brave: 145 runs off 100 balls (13 fours, 3 sixes)

London Spirit: 141 runs off 100 balls (11 fours, 4 sixes)

Southern Brave win!
