What's the match?

Birmingham Phoenix host Trent Rockets in the seventh match of the men's Hundred 2023.

When is it taking place?

The game is due to start at 6pm BST on Saturday, August 5.

Where is the match taking place?

Birmingham Phoenix play their home matches at Edgbaston in Birmingham

Who's got the form?

Birmingham Phoenix had their first game of the season against the Northern Superchargers cut short after the match was abandoned due to heavy rain. Just 62 balls were bowled before the players were forced off the field. Despite the short period of time, Ben Duckett performed very well with the bat, hitting 34 not out from 26 balls, and Will Smeed also contributed earlier in the innings with 21 runs from 18.

Trent Rockets, on the other hand, won their opening game of the season in a tight affair against Southern Brave at Trent Bridge. There wasn't much to separate the sides except for the brilliance of Sam Hain, who hit a destructive 63 runs from 39 balls. Also, Lewis Gregory and Daniel Sams proved pretty handy with the ball, both picking up three wickets.

What's the key matchup?

Duckett will be the crucial wicket for the Rockets. In his two previous seasons in The Hundred, playing for a struggling Welsh Fire, he scored over 200 runs, and his unbeaten 34 against the Superchargers demonstrates he's determined to carry that form into the new season. The Rockets will be heavily reliant on their bowling attack to take some early wickets before the dangermen of Smeed and Duckett get too comfortable.

What's the team news?

There will be no Joe Root for Trent Rockets, with his arrival not until August 9. Imad Wasim replaces the injured Rashid Khan, who has been ruled out of the competition, for the first three matches of The Hundred.

Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali remain unavailable for the Phoenix following their own Ashes exploits while Liam Livingstone missed their opener against Northern Superchargers due to a minor injury.

What are the possible starting XIs?

Birmingham Phoenix: Will Smeed, Jacob Bethell, Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith, Dan Mousley, Shadab Khan, Chris Benjamin, Benny Howell, Tom Helm, Adam Milne, Kane Richardson

Trent Rockets: Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Colin Munro, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Sam Hain, Samit Patel, Imad Wasim, Lewis Gregory, Daniel Sams, Luke Wood, Sam Cook

What are the odds?

Bookmakers Paddy Power have the pair very evenly matched; Trent Rockets are marginal favourites at 8/11.

What's the prediction?

Coming off the back of an excellent win against 2021 champions Southern Brave, Trent Rockets have to be favourites. Although we haven't seen the Phoenix in a full game yet at this year's Hundred, so it could make for a cagey affair.
