Sussex have become the latest county to confirm that none of their home games this season will take place at outgrounds.
The club had been due to play at Arundel, Eastbourne and Horsham this year, but with no start date for any shortened campaign in 2020 yet known, it has been decided to postpone visits to those venues until 2021.
The Arundel Festival was set to begin on June 28 with a County Championship clash with Derbyshire, while Sussex were set to return to Horsham for the first time in five years in order to face Gloucestershire in a Royal London Cup match on August 9. Eastbourne was due to be the stage for a fixture in the same competition against Kent on July 24.
Sussex chief executive Rob Andrew said: “While we’re bitterly disappointed to see our festival and outground cricket postponed for a year, we know the decision made is the correct one.
“As an organisation, we are dedicated to inspiring a passion for cricket across the county, and our work with our friends at Arundel, Eastbourne and Horsham helps us achieve that.
“Together, we are spreading our game across our wonderful county, and look forward to continuing that journey next summer.
“Trips to our wonderful outgrounds will be worth the wait. We thank our fans for their understanding and look forward to seeing them all at Arundel, Eastbourne and Horsham in 2021.”
Glamorgan made a similar announcement on Monday, with plans for visits to Colwyn Bay, Swansea and Newport called off.
