Bavuma replaces Tom Abell [SA20]
Bavuma was South Africa's leading run-scorer during the recent ODI series against England, scoring 180 runs in three matches, including a match-winning century in the second ODI.
In T20 cricket, the 32-year-old has scored 2,362 runs at a strike rate of 123.21 in 108 career appearances. 33 of those matches have come for South Africa, yielding 635 runs.
Bavuma could make his debut against Durban Super Giants on February 3.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape currently sit second in the table, with four wins from eight matches. However, they are only four points clear of fifth-placed MI Cape Town.
