Sky have confirmed they will not be screening the Indian Premier League in 2019.

The channel had signed up to a "multi-year" arrangement to show the tournament in March 2018 but customers were told on Tuesday that the competition would not be broadcast or streamed by Sky Sports this year.

The Cricketer had been told that at least one broadcaster has been looking into the possibility of a deal but indications are that Star Sports have opted to retain the rights for their exclusive use in the UK.

Reports in India suggest that live IPL coverage will be carried by Star Gold UK, available on channel 729 via Sky.

Hotstar, the company's online streaming service, is an option for UK viewers will be able to consume live action. Subscriptions are available on a monthly basis and cost £11.99.

In a statement to customers, Sky said: "it has been confirmed that Star India will exploit the rights themselves this year so Sky will not be covering the IPL cricket in 2019."

The Cricketer has not received a reply from Sky.

The IPL is scheduled to begin on Saturday.
