Six Surrey players have been instructed to self-isolate as a precautionary measure related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The players have not been named and not all six have shown symptoms, but close proximity means that all have been told to remain at home.

The remainder of the squad will continue to train at the Oval – in the club’s marquee, gym and indoor school.

How county pre-season plans have been affected by COVID-19

Sam Curran, Ben Foakes and Ollie Pope will all re-join the squad next week following the cancellation of England’s tour of Sri Lanka. Jason Roy will also return, having left the Pakistan Super League early.

The club was among the first to cancel their pre-season tour – they had been due to fly to Dubai on March 17.

At the time, director of cricket Alec Stewart said: "While it's disappointing we won't be able to return to Dubai this year, the health of our players and staff is paramount.

"The directive from Dubai Sports Council advising all venues to cancel or reschedule all international activities until the end of the month as a precautionary measure related to the spread of the COVID-19 means the ICC Academy are unable to host our training camp.

"As well as this, current uncertainties around travel and potential quarantine periods, either abroad or in the UK, mean this trip would simply be too disruptive to our preparations for the 2020 season."

However, all pre-season fixtures, beginning at Sussex on the April 2, remain scheduled to go ahead at this stage.
