Sean Dickson will swap Durham for Somerset at the end of the county season.

The 31-year-old opener, who has 824 runs at an average of just under 55 in this year's LV= Insurance County Championship, has signed a three-year deal at Taunton.

Somerset have been in the hunt for top-order experience, with James Hildreth calling time on his long career, and Dickson appears to fit the bill.

The South African-born batsman's record in first-class cricket includes more than 4,700 runs and 14 centuries - four of which have come in 2022.

He recently informed Durham of his desire to relocate back to the south of England for personal reasons after two and a half seasons in the north east.

Dickson, who holds a UK passport, will team up with Somerset over the winter. He described the "genuine buzz" at Taunton and the platform to win trophies as key factors in his decision to join.

The county's director of cricket Andy Hurry, said: "To secure a player of Sean's quality is a coup for the club. He is a proven performer with the bat at this level and has strong aspirations to play on the very highest stage.

"We have been looking to strengthen our batting at the top of the order and Sean fits that bill perfectly. He has started to establish himself as one of the more consistent openers within the English domestic game and will certainly add something to our dressing room.

"Sean is a player that we've been monitoring for a while, and once we were aware of his availability it was paramount that we acted quickly."

Dickson said: "I have loved my time at Durham. It has been an absolute pleasure to represent the north east as a region and Durham Cricket. I would like to thank Durham for understanding my situation. I wish the club and team all the best for the future."
