Saqib Mahmood to join England ODI training bubble after leaving Test group

The Lancashire seamer was named as one of nine reserves for the first Test against West Indies but will now focus on preparing for the Ireland series

England have confirmed seamer Saqib Mahmood will join the one-day international squad ahead of the series against Ireland.

The 22-year-old was named as one of nine reserves for the first Test against West Indies at The Ageas Bowl.

But he will have no further role to play in the series and will join up with the now 25-man limited-overs group when the squad convenes in Southampton on Thursday (July 16).

Mahmood has played one ODI and three T20 internationals for England during his short international career. Injuries to Pat Brown and Chris Jordan - Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, and Chris Woakes are also with the Test squad - have already left the team short of established seamers.

Eoin Morgan's side face Ireland in three day-night 50-over matches in Southampton on July 30, and then August 1 and 4. 

Further white-ball matches are scheduled for August and September in the form of three T20s against Pakistan, which follows the Test series between the two nations.

As with the separate red-ball squad, who have moved to Emirates Old Trafford for the second Test against West Indies, the squad will live, prepare and train on-site at The Ageas Bowl.

Intra-squad matches are scheduled for July 21 and 24, with a more condensed squad for the series to be named thereafter.
