Essex's Sam Cook has signed a new contract keeping him at the club until 2023.
The 23-year-old's original deal was due to expire at the end of the next term.
But following a fine start to the new campaign in the County Championship and T20 Blast the club have moved to reward his excellent form.
Cook has claimed 43 wickets this term, 11 of which have come in the ongoing T20 Blast for the Eagles.
The Chelmsford native has won two County Championship titles, the Bob Willis Trophy and the T20 Blast with Essex since his ascent into the first team.
"It was an easy decision to make and I feel like I’m having my best season to date," said the Loughborough MCCU graduate. "It’s an amazing feeling taking wickets for Essex and I’m pleased with how I’ve been able to contribute to the team this year.
"Like every cricketer, I have aspirations to play for my country, and I believe Essex is the best place for me to be so I can one day follow in their footsteps."
Head coach Anthony McGrath added: “He’s extremely reliable and has become a hugely important player in our team. You sometimes forget he’s just 23 as he’s been in the first team for quite a while now and has a matureness beyond his years."
