Essex seamer Sam Cook has signed a contract extension with the county after playing a key role in the club’s double-winning campaign.
The 22-year-old seamer took 38 wickets in all competitions, including 32 in the County Championship as the Chelmsford club won their second four-day crown in three years.
Cook’s new deal, which follows that of red-ball captain Ryan ten Doeschate, will see the bowler remain at the club until the end of the 2022 season.
He said: “I’m over the moon to be signing an extension until 2022. Committing my future to the club was an easy decision and is the perfect way to end a perfect season.
“We have a determined dressing room full of players that want to build on our success and regularly challenge for honours, and I’m excited for the next few years and to be a part of it.”
Head coach Anthony McGrath added: “Sam is a fantastic bowler who played a big role in our success last year.
“He’s become extremely reliable and consistent and is a vital part of our side. It’s great news for everyone at the club that he’s signed an extension and we’re looking forward to seeing him develop even further over the coming years.”
