A Dutch T20 Cup clash was thrown into chaos after police were called following a clash between two players led to the match being abandoned, on Friday (August 20).

Hermes-DVS and Punjab were meeting in the final round of matches in the group stage of the 20-over competition, in Schiedam.

But the game soon turned sour during the Hermes innings after a confrontation between batsman Olivier Elenbaas and wicket-keeper Mohsin Bajwa.

Bajwa appealed for a catch behind the stumps and took exception to Elenbaas' decision not to walk.

After an angry exchange of words, Emerging Cricket understand the episode escalated to the extent that both players were dismissed from the field.

The umpires adjudged that the pair had committed a level four breach of law 42, which allowed them to send off the duo.

It is understood it is the first time the rule has been used in the Netherlands.

The authorities were called to the scene but by the time they arrived the matter had been resolved.

Once tensions had been calmed, Hermes refused to return to the field leading to play being ceased.

A report of the incident has been submitted to match referee Rob Kemming and to the KNCB, who run cricket in the Netherlands.
