Leicestershire head coach Paul Nixon has turned down an offer to lead Bangladesh's development programme.

The BCB High-Performance Unit helps nurture the country's best young players, preparing them for the step-up into the senior ranks.

Former Sri Lanka seamer Champaka Ramanayake has been leading the bowling unit for the last two years and is now set for the head coach position.

But the 55-year-old's imminent appointment only comes after ex-England wicket-keeper Nixon rejected the role.

“I personally wanted to be head coach of HP team and I have good knowledge about the boys. I have worked with them in Academy and HP team for last two years," Ramanayake said.

"We have been champion in Emerging Asia Cup and SA games and this makes me hopeful of getting the head coach of HP team.

"I also know that they approached Paul Nixon for the post but he refused. I would be thankful if board keep faith in me."

Nixon worked with Bangladesh Premier League side Chattogram Challengers during the seventh edition of the competition, which concluded in January.

He has been head coach of Leicestershire since October 2017, returning to Grace Road after two separate spells as a player stretching across four decades.
