Olly Stone will take no further part in the 2021 summer for club or country after suffering another injury setback.

Stone, who is no stranger to the long periods of absence as a result of injury, sustained a stress fracture in his back during England's recent defeat by New Zealand in the second Test at Edgbaston.

The pace bowler had been under consideration for the ODI series against Sri Lanka but will miss that, and further white and red-ball campaigns against Pakistan and India, as well as Warwickshire and Birmigham Bears' entire schedules for the remainder of the season.

"It is a great shame as Olly was showing real promise with the ball and would have been part of our selection plans for this series," England head coach Chris Silverwood said.

The news will come as a huge blow to Stone, who has battled back from injury issues on several occasions over the course of his career.

He suffered freak knee ligament damage after jumping to celebrate a wicket in 2016, and then endured two stress fractures in his back in 2019.
