Misbah-ul-Haq has been named as Islamabad United’s new head coach.

The former Pakistan captain will combine the role with his dual position as head coach and chief selector of the national team.

He replaces Dean Jones, who had led the franchise through the first four editions of the Pakistan Super League. He has since taken over as Karachi Kings head coach.

Misbah is joined by former New Zealand wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi, who will take up a player mentor and assistant coach position and previously played for the outfit.

Saeed Ajmal, the former Pakistan spinner and a one-time teammate of Misbah, will continue in his role as spin bowling coach.

Islamabad United are the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having won two of the four editions. Ronchi was voted the competition’s best player in 2018 – the year of Islamabad’s most recent title.

This year’s PSL will be the first to be played completely in Pakistan. The player draft takes place on Friday, December 6.
