Former Lancashire spinner Stephen Parry has been appointed as the new head coach of Manchester Originals' women.

Parry, who ended his playing career in 2020, is a relative novice in the world of coaching, but he has been entrusted with the reins at The Hundred's north west club, succeeding Paul Shaw.

He has also spent time working below Shaw as an assistant coach at the Originals.

"The growth of the women's game is revolutionary and, being a proud Mancunian myself, it is an honour to be a part of this team," Parry said.

"I'm very much looking forward to the tournament and all that we can achieve and I'm sure we will have the whole city behind us."

Shaw, meanwhile, will focus on his work with Lancashire and Thunder after asking to step away from the Originals job.

In a statement, Originals' general manager Lee Morgan said: "The Manchester Originals board and management consulted at length about this appointment, but despite Parry's relative inexperience as a coach they decided to give him the opportunity to start to fulfil his undoubted potential."

Parry will take charge of a Manchester side which has yet to make a mark on The Hundred, with a fifth-place finish in the competition's first season in 2021 preceding a sixth-place finish last year.
