Luc Benkenstein has signed a contract extension with Essex which will keep him at Chelmsford until at least the end of the 2024 season.

The 18-year-old made his debut for the county in August 2021 and has gone on to make six List A appearances, scoring 72 runs – including a half-century against Worcestershire – and taking 11 wickets.

Benkenstein made 11 appearances for the 2nd XI in 2022, scoring 61 runs and taking two wickets in six T20 outings and a further 245 runs (including one century) and 14 wickets in five Championship matches, as well as featuring in the Pakistan Junior League. In the latter competition, he scored 217 runs at 31, earning himself a spot in the team of the tournament.

Commenting on committing his future to Essex, he said: "I'm delighted to sign a new deal with Essex. The club have given me lots of opportunities to grow and develop as a player and I'm extremely grateful to them.

"I've loved my time in Chelmsford so far and I can't wait for the 2023 season to get underway.

"Gaining valuable game time out in the Pakistan Junior League was amazing and I can't wait to get back out in an Essex shirt soon."

Head coach, Anthony McGrath, added: "Luc has huge potential and we're all thrilled that he has signed a new deal with the club.

"He has featured for us several times in our One-Day Cup sides and we're all looking forward to seeing Luc progress over the next few years."
