Leicestershire have signed seamer Matt Salisbury after he left Durham ahead of the end of his contract.

Salisbury, 29, claimed 102 wickets for Durham and has signed a three-year deal at Grace Road.

His arrival follows the signings of for 2023 Michael Finan, who joined late in the 2022 campaign, and Sol Budinger, who has moved from Nottinghamshire. Salisbury will also fill the void left by Ben Mike, who has left Leicestershire for Yorkshire, and seamers Abi Sakande and Gavin Griffiths, who have been released.

Salisbury began his career at Essex and also spent time at Hampshire before finding a home at Durham, peaking with 44 wickets at 24.77 apiece in 2018.

"I'm very excited to have been given the opportunity to join Leicestershire," said Salisbury. As soon as I spoke with Claude (Henderson) and the coaching staff, I got a strong feeling about the club being the right place for me."

Henderson was appointed as the county's permanent director of cricket earlier this month, while James Taylor has returned to the club as Leicestershire's new batting coach in a busy start to the off-season for Paul Nixon's charges after a dismal red-ball campaign in which they didn't win any of their 14 matches and finished 35 points adrift at the bottom of Division Two.

Henderson added: "We are very pleased to welcome Matt to Leicestershire. He arrives with a good reputation and an excellent track record. He will bring an impressive skillset and high levels of determination to our squad, and we are looking forward to seeing him flourish in all three formats."
