Lancashire have revealed plans for a two-tier 4,850-seater stand that would make Emirates Old Trafford the United Kingdom’s biggest cricket ground outside London.

The design, which is subject to planning permission being granted, will replace the Red Rose Suite and includes plans for a pitch-view suite, members facilities, a ticket office and a shop.

Overall, the expansion will take the stadium’s capacity to 26,700, with plans also in place for an extension of the Hilton Garden Inn hotel, which opened two years ago.

David Hodgkiss, the chairman of the Red Rose county, said the development would “complete the redevelopment” of the venue, describing it as a “world class and all-encompassing stadium”.

He added: “Lancashire Cricket Club is committed to ensuring Emirates Old Trafford is one of the best places in the world to watch and play cricket, both at a domestic and international level and the new stand, which includes a pitch-view suite, will further enhance the facilities for Lancashire Members.

“It will transform that area of the ground and will make Emirates Old Trafford one of the largest cricket stadiums in the country.”

The ground featured a large temporary stand this year as Lancashire hosted six World Cup matches and an Ashes Test

Trafford Council has also outlined plans for new homes, offices and a leisure centre and changes to cycle and pedestrian routes. Those plans also include a proposal for a “processional route”

They also include a public square and a route linking Lancashire’s Old Trafford and Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium.

If planning permission is granted, the redevelopment would be completed in time for the 2022 season. No price has yet been revealed for the new stand.
