Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran and Mark Wood are named in both squads, while Root and Chris Woakes are part of a 13-man ODI party
England have named their squads for the white-ball visit of Australia, with Joe Root returning to the ODI group but absent for the T20I series.
Root is one of several England Test stars coming back into the limited-over fold, having been restricted thus far to playing red-ball cricket as a result of the complications around shifting between bio-secure bubbles.
Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran and Mark Wood are named in both squads, while Root and Chris Woakes are part of a 13-man ODI party.
Jason Roy has not been included in either squad, with doubts remaining over his fitness, having suffered a side strain in the build-up to England’s T20I series against Pakistan.
He will therefore miss the T20I series against Australia, but could return for the ODIs, depending on his fitness. He will remain as part of the bio-secure bubble in the meantime.
There is no place in either squad for David Willey, who was named man of the series for his contribution to England’s series win against Ireland. Lewis Gregory, meanwhile, part of England’s T20I setup for the Pakistan matches, is left out of both squads.
Dawid Malan is included in England's T20I squad
Ben Stokes, who travelled to New Zealand to spend time with his family after it was revealed that his father was fighting cancer, is not involved.
Liam Dawson, James Vince and Liam Plunkett – all members of England’s World Cup-winning squad in 2019 – have been left out, though Dawson is out for the remainder of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon while playing for Hampshire.
