The injury to his lower back will see him miss all three of the matches against Faf du Plessis’ side, with the first game beginning on October 2 at Visakhapatnam
Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of India’s upcoming series against South Africa after suffering a minor stress fracture.
The injury to his lower back will see him miss all three of the matches against Faf du Plessis’ side, with the first game beginning on October 2 at Visakhapatnam.
He has been replaced in the squad by Umesh Yadav.
The injury is a major blow for India, with Bumrah having emerged as one of the world’s leading all-format bowlers since he made his Test debut in the reverse fixture against South Africa at Cape Town in January 2018.
He took 13 wickets in two Tests in West Indies last month, including a hat-trick which came in amongst an extraordinary spell of five wickets for just seven runs.
Yadav last represented India in Test cricket in December 2018; he has taken 119 wickets in the format at an average of 33.47.
