The Surrey seamer has only featured twice since 2019 and will join an exciting Falcons attack
T20 Blast Essentials: Friday, July 2, 2021
Derbyshire have secured the services of former England quick Jade Dernbach on loan for the remainder of the T20 Blast group stage.
The 35-year-old missed the whole of last year with a groin injury and has featured just twice for the first team this term.
With Conor McKerr's temporary spell at Derbyshire having been cut short by Surrey, Dernbach will act as his replacement.
He joins an impressive attack including George Scrimshaw and Fynn Hudson-Prentice as the Falcons look to stage a late surge into the quarter-finals.
Dernbach could make his debut in the visit of Worcestershire Rapids on Friday (July 2).
"I enjoy the Vitality Blast and I’m really excited to play the rest of the group stage with Derbyshire," said Dernbach, who played 24 one-day internationals and 34 T20s for England.
"Their bowlers have done well recently and I want to add to that and use my experience to see if we can make a push for the knockout stages."
Coach Dominic Cork added: "Jade’s experience in Twenty20 cricket speaks for itself, and he will give us a different option with the ball.
"Our young bowlers have performed brilliantly so far, and George Scrimshaw and Fynn Hudson-Prentice will be able to learn even more working with a seasoned pro in Jade."
While Dernbach has attempted to fight his way back to full fitness, opportunities to feature in the first team have been few and far between. Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson and Kyle Jamieson are the leaders of the seam attack in the absence of the injured Liam Plunkett and unavailable England pair Sam and Tom Curran.
