The legendary allrounder joins Mark Boucher's coaching battery as batting consultant for the summer in the latest major alteration behind the scenes
South Africa have recruited Jacques Kallis as their batting consultant for the entire summer ahead of the Test and limited-overs series against England.
The 44-year-old will work alongside former Proteas teammate Mark Boucher, who was appointed as head coach last week.
Charl Langeveldt has also joined the backroom team as bowling consultant after being released as a coach of the Bangladesh men's team.
Kallis has had limited coaching experience since ending his international career, only working with Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders in two separate capacities.
Regarded as a modern-day great, the Cape Town native scored 13,289 runs - the third most in history - and took 292 wickets in 166 Tests for his country.
He is seventh in the all-time list of one-day international run-scorers with 11,579 and inside the top 20 wicket-takers in the 50-over format with 273 scalps.
South Africa now have a dream team backing room team
A four-Test series with England starting on Boxing Day is Kallis' first assignment before the two sides play three ODIs and three T20s in the New Year.
The arrival of Kallis is the latest high-profile move in South African cricket. Boucher's appointment as Ottis Gibson's replacement came after former captain Graeme Smith was enlisted as interim director of cricket.
Since the beginning of December four members of the board of Cricket South Africa have left their post. Jack Madiseng, Dawn Mokhobo, Iqbal Khan and Professor Shirley Zinn have all departed, while chief executive Thabang Moroe has been suspended amid allegations of misconduct.
