Deepak Chahar is an injury concern for India ahead of the men's T20 World Cup.

The 30-year-old seamer has been withdrawn from the squad for the remainder of the one-day international series against South Africa with back stiffness.

Chahar returns to the National Cricket Academy and will be monitored there by the medical team.

He had played in all three preceding T20Is against The Proteas, taking three wickets.

Washington Sundar has been called up for the remaining games in Ranchi and New Delhi on October 9 and 11.

The Chennai Super Kings quick is on the reserve list for the tournament, alongside Ravi Bishnoi, Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami.

It is the latest back issue to hit the Pradesh native this year having been ruled out of the Indian Premier League with an injury to the same area.

Indeed, he was held back from an early return to ensure he was fully fit for the tournament in Australia.

India are currently considering who will replace Jasprit Bumrah in the main World Cup squad after the fast bowler was ruled out with a stress-related back injury.

Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma's side kick off their campaign against Pakistan in Melbourne on October 23.
