South Africa batsman Hashim Amla concedes his side "are in a bad situation" after the Proteas' third consecutive World Cup defeat yesterday.

Faf du Plessis' men went down by six wickets to India in Southampton, having only set Virat Kohli's men 228 runs to win after yet another average batting display.

South Africa also succumbed to England and Bangladesh in their previous two fixtures, and that has led Amla, who made just six runs against India, to admit that his side are in trouble right now.

"We're in a bad situation," Sport24.co.za quoted Amla as saying.

"We’ve played pretty average cricket and we need to turn it around by playing our best cricket."

Faf du Plessis' men have now lost all of their games at the World Cup so far

However, despite his side's dip in form, Amla denied that motivation is not an issue and that they will continue to press hard to rectify their current failings before their clash against West Indies on June 10.

"I don't think there is a lack of motivation. Body language will always come up when you lose a game or two, or three.

"I certainly don't think anyone could fault body language today (Wednesday)… we fought. Everybody wants to perform, there is no doubt about that.

"We're out there practicing and doing everything we can to put the numbers on the board."
