Nottinghamshire have confirmed batsman Haseeb Hameed has agreed a new one-year contract to remain at Trent Bridge until 2022.

The 23-year-old arrived at Trent Bridge last year from Lancashire and enjoyed a solid opening season.

Hameed scored 272 runs at 38.85 in the Bob Willis Trophy for Notts.

Furthermore, he and opening partner Ben Slater averaged 93 across their three appearances together.

"Playing for Notts is everything to me now," said the England opener, whose three Test appearances came against India in 2016. "Last winter after leaving Lancashire, I took my time to decide which was the right club for me.

"It’s a decision I wanted to get just right; to find a county I could be passionate about playing for and to make it a long and successful association with one club."

Head coach Peter Moores added: "Haseeb made a significant impact from the moment he joined us. He hit the ground running with his work ethic and the intensity of his training, and he gelled with his teammates very quickly."
