Haroon Rashid re-appointed as Pakistan's lead selector

The changes at the PCB continue apace, with Haroon Rashid set for a return as head of the Pakistan men's selection panel.

The former Pakistan international previously held the position in 2016, and succeeds the interim appointment of Shahid Afridi.

Haroon has been inserted by new PCB chair Najam Sethi, who was himself brought back to the role following the dismissal of Ramiz Raja last month.

His job is substantial. While Pakistan have had some recent success in white-ball cricket, reaching the final of the T20 World Cup in November, their general form has been slipping.

"One of the key aspects I will like to focus on my time will be improving communication," Haroon said.

"This is a critical area as the players need to have absolute clarity on why they have been selected or not selected, which, in turn, will help them to deliver the desired results, work harder on their skills and remain motivated."

Pakistan did not win one of their five home Tests in December and January, following a whitewash by England with two draws against New Zealand.

They are currently seventh in the World Test Championship table, having won four of 14 matches in the ongoing cycle. 

The PCB said in a statement that the remainder of the selection panel would be announced in the coming weeks. The governing body is attempting to recruit Derbyshire head coach Mickey Arthur as a consultant. Arthur rebuffed an informal approach to become head coach late last year.
