Toby Albert, John Turner and Harry Petrie have each taken the next step towards becoming establishing figures at The Ageas Bowl
Hampshire have handed out a batch of rookie contracts to their next generation of young players.
The group is led by John Turner, the South African-born seamer who debuted in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
Turner claimed seven wickets in half a dozen outings and picked up Sir Alastair Cook on debut in July.
Cricket head of player development Charlie Freeston said: “It’s been a long-term project with John who has spent time playing with Hampshire’s age groups.
"He’s got a great attitude - he made his full debut this year and there’s a lot more to come from him. I fully expect him to be pushing for first-team spots moving forwards.”
Toby Albert, a top-order batter, caught the eye in 2021 after scoring 105 in 60 balls in a T20 for Hampshire second XI against a Sussex attack including England's Ollie Robinson.
Quick bowler Harry Petrie completes the trio after a fruitful campaign which ended with selection for England Under-19s against West Indies.
Freeston added: "Toby’s had a great season with us to gain his contract. He suffered a knee injury at Under-17 level which kept him out for a long time so it’s really pleasing to see how well he has done on his return. He has particularly impressed in the Hampshire second XI this year and he is a really exciting player across all formats.”
“Harry has been with us since a very young age and this season he has exceeded expectations with his performances and really earned this contract," he continued. "He has been relentless in every side he has played for this year and we want to invest in him for the long term.”
